£1 Fish Man

It did happen in the end. The singing fish sales man Muhammad Nazir normally standing at Upton Park market in London, always had a peculiar similarity to another UK vocal tradition, namely, grime.

They way of ending each bar with the same word, repeating the same chant (countless grime crew freestyles), the market man was even featured on YouTube with young grime heads totally getting into the whole "one pound fish riddim", if one could call it so:

Flea market vendors all over in Europe have similar ways of luring attention to their goods. In Frankfurt am Main, there´s the classic "Ein teil ein euro, zwei teil ein euro" (One piece one euro, two pieces one euro), which is actually devalving its own price within the matter of seconds. "Shoe for you" is also being shouted loud on repeat.
However, is Muhammad perhaps a talented bhangra mc, who just happened to get into the LDN fish trade, and saw this as his only output? One has to say its remarkably cheap. What fish do you get for one £1? And what is a good reciepe for the one pound fish?
Was the one pound fish man just gonna be standing there every day, more often being filmed by smartphones and million of hits on the internet?
No, one day, Mr Nazir decided to take his knack to the X Factor.
The judges weren´t too impressed, and perhaps couldn´t see him on a worldtour with Robbie Williams in the near future, performing different remixes on the One Pound fish song. He failed:

Then he has been featured in a series of videos, where people just wanna hang out with him, and sing that, you know, do that thing you do.....

Now, will he stand up to being used and abused for his unique talent?
No, he recently released a chart dance house track of his song; he´s trying to take it mainstream and make some money out of it while he can, of course.
Get the big fish and maybe even 10,000 pound fish egg lifestyle.
If not, return to Upton Park and grind.... Nuff respect.

There has always been a place in Europe for odd one-hit-wonders
